The Critical Flame: "Out of Body: Reading Gender Through 'Women's Fiction'"

My essay, "Out of Body: Reading Gender Through 'Women's Fiction,'" is featured in the March/April 2014 issue of The Critical Flame. The essay centers on my experience of reading Virago Modern Classics as a stay-at-home father, and finding myself in the lives of the women depicted in those novels.

The Critical Flame has been receiving good press recently, after editor Daniel Evans Pritchard announced that—beginning in May 2014—the online literary journal would devote an entire year to women's writing. As reported in The Guardian, this decision was in response to a report by VIDA, known as the VIDA Count, showing a strong male-bias in literary journals. You can read Daniel's editorial here
