He gets short shrift from most historians! This post, along with your most recent, where you mentioned bridging the divide between color lines, reminded me of Hamilton's own upbringing in the West Indies. Jefferson said that Hamilton was not only for a monarchy, but for "a monarchy bottomed on corruption," but in view of Hamilton's leading role in founding New York's first anti-slavery society, I've always considered him one of the great egalitarians of his time!
